Join UChicago Global and the Consulate General of Brazil in Chicago for the first webinar in a series featuring conversations between leading scholars from the University of Chicago and Brazil on the impact of international collaboration on advances in science.

Dr. Olufunmilayo Olopade has spent her career investigating the predispositions to breast cancer throughout the African Diaspora. Her work with colleagues in Nigeria, Uganda, Cameroon, and the US has illuminated gene variants that are drivers of breast cancer development in women of African descent around the world, pointing the way to strategies for prevention and to precision therapeutics. When Dr. Rodrigo Guindalini visited the University of Chicago in 2012, his and Dr. Olopade’s shared areas of expertise created an opportunity to expand the scope of her research from Africa and the US to include Latin America.

In this webinar, Dr. Olopade and Dr. Guindalini will discuss the factors that led to their joint efforts to understand the genetic predisposition to cancer. Furthermore, they will share how their careers as researchers and practitioners have benefited from international collaboration.
